Website Design & Development

The UN Development Group (UNDG) unites the 32 UN funds, programmes, agencies, departments, and offices that play a role in development. The group’s common objective is to deliver more coherent, effective and efficient support to countries seeking to attain internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals.

UNDG required a new fresh, lighter and modern website built on the CMS WordPress that provides multi-site distributed content management with a centralized oversight for users located world-wide (UN headquarter, 6 global regions, ~300 countries). The website needed to include various up-to-date sections that could be automatically populated, as well as edited manually. Other site management capabilities would need to include managing menus, navigations, the footer, and custom publishing functions. The original UNDG.org housed a large database, key resources, and 18,000 archived documents that would also need to be easily migrated to the new website.

Creatrix developed standard templates and unique, customized components within WordPress that central and regional site managers could easily update and create pages with while retaining UNDG standards and cultural sensibility. Components were created for the homepage which display updated news and downloads. Creatrix also assisted with the migration process, ensuring all archives and resources were properly migrated to the new site and remained accessible.

Once the website was launched it was found that users could easily find all latest updates and resources without having to navigate through the website. The content on the homepage has been updated frequently, giving returning visitors a refreshed, informative experience each time.

Creatrix provided training and support throughout the migration process, which allowed many stakeholders to take ownership of their sub sites, maintain the content, and use the site to meet their unique coordination purposes.
The final website was found to load quickly in the majority of countries by industry standard, and historical archives were easily located.
